Long Play of the Day: Hansen Medical [View article]
Earnings will be out on the 23rd, after expirations and your premium will rapidly expire next week. We teach our Members never to buy premium - we're the one's selling it to you!

Tweaks - Check out Think or Swim, they allow naked short put selling in IRAs, they just call the full margin on it, which is fine if you have unused margin and want to sell premium.
Our PSW Report Membership is just $29 a month and you get these articles and many more as soon as they are published on the site and summarized in 2 mailings a day at 8:30 and 6. Another great benefit of the Report membership is you get to view our Premium chat on posts that 7-30 days old so it's a good way to see lots of inside stuff at PSW.
That AMED trade, for example developed in chat over the course of weeks as we all debated the merits back and forth. You'll see that with many things as we often watch things for months before we decide it's time to pull the trigger and it's very nice to have a background on something when it finally ends up being a line in a post like my call on IBM this weekend.

This particular trade was initially included in our daily Oxen Trades, which were published on the 9th at 9:22 am, when HNSN opened at $2.55.

I can't help it if you people don't want to spend 65 cents a day to subscribe to our newsletter to get these picks fresh.
Since this trade barely budged on day one and our goal was 10%, Ilene decided to post it to the Instablog at 3:54 which, of course, no one reads but I do try to put good trade ideas up for the SA people once in a while. seekingalpha.com/insta...
Then, the next morning, the SA editors decide to move the Instablog post to the main page but it's a bit stale if you didn't catch it early. The trade hit goal (8-9%) already and most of us are out or 1/2 out so don't read this now (Wednesday night) thinking this was a long-term endorsement of HNSN.
What I just don't get is why only Sleepy gets the trade concept. It's very, very easy to make a quick couple of percent on these small stocks and we do that every single day. Picking them for long-term holds is hard - so why bother? If I want to own a stock long-term I'll buy AAPL or IBM or XOM, not HNSN. Once in a while we'll go this route (we just set up a Jan spread on ITMN that risks $2 to make $7 if ITMN can hold just $10 by then) but you can't fool yourself into thinking these little biotechs are ever anything more than a "Las Vegas" play.
Since they are, it's better to play a quick spin with high odds and walk away a winner than putting it all on a long-shot and praying. What's more valuable to a team - a singles hitter that goes 6 for 10 or a home run hitter that goes 2 for 10?
