Chembio & Bio-Rad Agreement: New Competition for Orasure? [view article]
Good article. Points out another means of finding out if one has HIV or not. It is competition, yes. However, the article failed to emphasize that the Orasure test is a non-invasive easy test that uses only ones saliva to get the results. One can do this test on his own in the strict privacy of his home. Whereas Chembio's needs a blood sample that nurse or med-tech has to draw from the patient or the patient can prick himself (article does not mention how much blood needs to be drawn from the patient). If a nurse in a clinic is required to draw blood, higher expense and loss of privacy comes into play and patients will be reluctant to use it. Feb 29 12:06 PMWill Renewable Energy Be Uranium's 'Banana Skin'? [view article]
Wave, solar, wind, hydro and geothermal are all good sources of "clean power". However, under the best of conditions, they can only produce about 5% of the total electrical power generated from today's hydrocarbon based and nuclear electric generating plants. Even if the global power consumption is reduced by 20% (to help significantly reduce green house gases and sustain life on earth), there will still be an enormous amount of electrical power needed to run industries, home, and businesses.Current common nuclear reactors today only uses 4% of the available fuel. The new generation plants will use up to 95% of the uranium fuel which will greatly reduce nuclear waste and last about 300+ years. However, the newer systems of breeder reactors now being developed is the real answer to mankind's global need for clean, reliable electric power. The fuel cannot be made into bombs (answers safety concerns) and can supply power indefinely. These can completely replace all hydrocarbon based electric generating plants. With this source of clean electric power, most cars used for city driving can be plug-in types, meaning they will not use hydrocarbon fuels except when driving long distances. Airplanes and ships will still need hydrocarbon fuels though. The sooner the world convert to nuclear power, the sooner we can eliminate coal/gas/oil burning power plants, the sooner we can limit the damage caused by people's generation CO2 gases....and the sooner global warming can be reversed. Why I'm Bullish On Coal Stocks [view article]
Further to thomas Blakeslee's comments, the world has to start shifting to nuclear power. It is the only means to convert hydrocarbon based power plants big time without producing CO2. Solar and Wind power will provide only a small percentage of the world's electric power needs. To quickly arrest the steep growth of CO2 generation and global warming, we need to replace all fossil fuel electric power plants with nuclear. One of the fastest ways of conversion to nuclear is to substitute pebble bed reactors for coal fired plants; their generators can be reused. This will happen, the world has no choice. Coal's will only be good for small application like producing liquid fuel for aviation applications and emergency power. Commuter cars will be electric plug-in types (electric power provided from nuclear plants) to further reduce CO2. Coal, oil and gas value will decline. So will the power of the Middle East, to their pre-OPEC status. Hopefully, so too will terrorist activities. With greatly deminished need for oil, our involvement with the MIddle East will decline.Nuclear, with fuel recycling, will last longer than oil. The Nevada nuclear waste site will not be needed. New nuclear technologies will make our nuclear fuel last forever. The world has an abundance of uranium and thorium and most deposits are located in countries with stable and peaceful populations - US, Canada, Austalia, India. Long term investments are in uranium and nuclear power industries. Apr 23 04:56 PM
